Sri Lanka’s tech export sector, in numbers.
Industry data can help a hiring team understand a market before starting a search. Sri Lanka’s Export Development Board provides one useful view: the value of services the country exports. The numbers below describe a sector, rather than the performance of an individual recruitment company.

The 2025 export snapshot
EDB estimated Sri Lanka’s ICT/BPM exports at US$1,644.83 million for January–December 2025, up 8.81% from 2024. It estimated total services exports at US$3,672.77 million, a 2.79% increase.
| Indicator | 2025 estimate | Change from 2024 |
|---|---|---|
| ICT/BPM export earnings | US$1,644.83 million | +8.81% |
| Total services export earnings | US$3,672.77 million | +2.79% |
ICT/BPM includes information and communication technology and business process management. Services figures are EDB estimates, not a count of developers, jobs or vacancies.
Read the number at the right level
Export earnings measure the value of cross-border services. They do not establish a national developer salary, the number of available candidates or the quality of a particular team. A sector can grow while individual companies have very different experiences.
Our interpretation: these figures are a useful reason to investigate Sri Lanka’s international services market. They are not sufficient evidence for selecting a provider or promising a hiring outcome.
Follow market research with candidate research
Once a market is on your shortlist, move to the requirements of your own team. Ask for relevant work samples, a clear assessment process, availability and communication expectations. A good selection process turns broad interest into evidence about a specific person.
- Can the candidate explain a project relevant to your stack?
- What working hours overlap with your team?
- Who supports onboarding and day-to-day communication?
- Are the engagement scope, fees and responsibilities clear?
